First Week
- Ferilize fescue lawns for a second time.
- Now is the best time to plant spring-flowering bulbs.
- Blow or rake fallen leaves and acorns from newly planted fescue lawns.
Second Week
- Apply a fresh mulch under shrubs, trees, and perennials.
- Neaten perennial flower beds by removing dry stems and dead leaves.
Third Week
- Fertilize your pansies, snapdragons, cabbage, and dianthus you planted afew weeks ago. Use a nitrogen based fertilizer.
- Make a cheap compost bin from 4 foot wide fence wire at 10 feet long. Bend it into a circle and join the ends together. Spray each layer of leaves with water as you pile the leaves in.
Fourth Week
- Continue to plant shrubs and trees even though its cool outdoors because the soil is still warm enough to encourage root growth.
- Water weekly the pansies and other cool-season glowers you planted earlier in the fall.
- Spot spray or pull out chickweed, violets, and wild onions you find in your lawn.
